Hardy's Signs are the Wight Stuff for pubs

16th March 2009

Burton’s Hardys Signs has recently completed the design, manufacture and installation of new signage at three of the Isle of White’s leading pubs.

The company’s wide experience in designing signs for special applications proved important for each of the inns. Its careful choice of materials was another bonus point for each of the clients, whose distinctive logos and styling Hardy Signs were keen to maintain.

For the Bargemans Rest in Newport, the leading signage company used traditionally painted marine plywood sign panels. This pub is located on Newport's previously busy quay - named Little London - as it reminded coastal sailing skippers of The Port of London with its bustle of ships.

The design team lead by Adam Bates recreated a replica of the old pictorial sign, using 10 year cast vinyl graphics and gold moulded acrylic lettering on the highly distinctive scroll signs.

Along the coast at the western end of Ventnor Esplanade, Hardy Signs supplied new signs for the world famous, award winning Spyglass Inn.

Dating from 1830, and probably the oldest pub on the esplanade, Hardy Signs used the unique location of the pub to again create eye-catching signs from traditionally painted marine plywood panels. For the pubs’ new apartments, Hardys conceived complementary advertising signs for the nightly or weekly lets. Completing the new signs, large format banners were fitted to sea wall which is viewed from the beach.

In the heart of the Island, Hardy Signs designed and installed large format signs with 10 year cast vinyl graphics for the Chequers Inn at Rookley.

Voted the Good Pub Guide National Family Pub of the Year, the Chequers signs were designed directly for local farmer, Richard Holmes, who has turned the freehouse into one of the most popular venues on the Island for both eating and drinking.

For each location, Hardy Signs carried out a site survey to prepare their designs for distinctive, contextually-correct signs. An early survey before work starts is recommended by the company in order that clients’ specifications can be obtained.

Simultaneously, the site team will investigate the location details for each sign and its correct fixing.

Hardy Signs has an extensive experience in signs and signage for pubs, hotels and restaurants using traditional and the latest acrylic materials for internal and external applications.
