Signage experts Hardy Signs of Falcon Close, Burton on Trent has recently completed the contract for new high-level signs at the offices of Bristol News and Media in the heart of the provincial capital of the South West.
The media group and publisher of regional and local papers, including the flagship Bristol Evening Post and Western Daily Press, has embarked on a rolling, refurbishment programme and called in Hardy Signs for this special project.
The new signage, located high above street level, was installed on the exterior wall of the media company’s offices and print rooms.
Facing the busy Temple Way underpass into the City, the 25m long sign features 1.5m high, blue aluminium, lettering with translucent acrylic faces, illuminated with the latest low voltage LED lighting system.
Whilst the left hand third of the sign curves through 90 degrees around the fascia of the building, the right hand end, facing directly onto the street, incorporates a new 3.6sqm red, LED, electronic message board.
The board, programmable from a PC via a wireless link, offers a flexible display from the time and temperature, customised scrolling data, to the latest news headlines.
Tom Hardy, from Hardy Signs, who managed the project for this new client, added, “Our installation team completed fitting and testing of the sign within the planned
schedule; despite adverse weather conditions of heavy rain and strong winds”.
“The delicate electronic message board was cumbersome to handle at 10m above
street level and required careful handing from the Hardy Signs team. We set up a 15m long scaffolding, so we could manoeuvre the signs and electronic message
board into place”.
“Large signage is particularly unwieldy at height and above 5m, it’s not unusual
to stop work when winds reach 15mph”, he added. “That’s only a moderate breeze on the Beaufort Scale. So being able to stick to schedules with our recent run of unlikely summer weather, says a great deal about the skills of our installation team”.
Hardy Signs MD, Nik Hardy, confirmed that ‘since the successful installation of this bespoke signage project, we are currently in negotiation for further works with the Bristol News & Media group beginning with their new offices for The Bath Chronicle. There is also an ongoing refurbishment scheme at Bristol’.
“The range of signs required for this project demanded innovative design, plus high levels of engineering and installation”, said Shaun Hall, Regional Operational Support Manager for Northcliffe Media West & Wales.
“As our new partner in Bristol, Hardy Signs delivered, in every area, in a cost- effective way. We have received much favourable comment from staff and customers alike, and are looking to building our successful relationship in the future”. |
