FAQs

At Hardy Signs, we are here to assist you in the selection, design and installation process for your signs. Below, we have assembled some key parts to be considered when developing your sign.

1. What’s the purpose of your sign?
Deciding on your message and what information you want to display is the starting point.
Is your sign;

To warn customers, other users?
To provide directions?
To serve as a reminder?
To celebrate an important event?

2. Who is your target audience?
Here there’s a potentially wide choice. Your customers; your staff, and any other visitors.

3. How do you want to communicate your message?
Traditional, modern, even experimental styles can be used depending on what your sign is designed to communicate. Many signs can be confusing if inappropriate styles are used.

The style for a mandatory, warning or prohibitive sign is conventionally very different from a retail special offer in shop window designed to attract customers.

However, there is some blurring of the ‘style boundaries’ between some signs designed to create greater impact.

Hardy Signs advisory service is part of our ‘sign package’ to ensure you get the exact sign for the application and purpose that you require.

4. What is the best size for my new sign?
This is a difficult question and can be a personal matter of choice.

However, the size of your sign is a critical component and warrants careful consideration right from the start of planning your new sign.

It needs to be large enough to be fully legible once in situe. What looks good on a desk may be too small when fitted on a shop front or high up on a factory wall. Many warning signs have a predetermined size and can be a useful guideline if your sign has a similar application.

Your new sign may have to compete to get customers’ attention. Other sizes for your sign may be too large for the intended purpose. On all these points, Hardy Signs can carefully advise you.

5. Which colour is the best for my sign?
This can be very much a matter of choice; but again should be governed by your own guidelines.

Some colours are better suited to particular applications. Warning signs are typically white on red; mandatory signs white on blue and prohibtion red/white.

6. What graphics or other effects can be used?
Our latest software offers a wide range of effects from font styles, 3- Dimensional effects, internal illumination and moving images created to draw attention to your sign.

Some combinations work well together; others are less satisfactory. Yet others can go out-of-date almost overnight which may be acceptable if your sign has only a short lifespan.

7. How long will my sign last?
At Hardy Signs, we stock a wide selection of materials suitable for all types of signs from those required only for seven days right up to signs that can last for more than 10 years.

The choice of material is important; we are constantly talking to our suppliers and use the latest materials that are suitable for purpose.

8. What about the location for my sign?
The key questions are where will the sign be installed?

What’s important about the location of the sign?

Hardy Signs external signs are supplied in durable, long lasting material. Interior signs demand other materials depending on the purpose. There are additional questions about the fitting of your sign that affects the final choice of material that is made in consultation with each customer.

9. How much will my sign cost?
We operate a value for money policy linked with our full advice service.

We take into careful consideration all the individual elements that are combined to provide signs that meet and exceed expectations.

Our quotations are offered promptly, as customers frequently require prices as quickly as possible.

Our customer advice service is designed to answer every question, but if you require further information, please contact us by telephone or email.
