Selecting the Colour
Choosing the right colour for your new sign can be a daunting prospect. Select an inappropriate, or wrong colour, and your sign will not make the full impact nor convey that message as you expected.
Here are some simple guidelines to choosing colour:
Calming colours:
- Blue - Importance, confidence, intelligence, stability, conservatism. ‘The Corporate colour’
- Green - Life, growth, renewal, health. But also jealousy, envy and inexperience.
- Turquoise - Sweetness, femininity, lively, sophistication.
- Silver - Sleek, modern, ornate, rich.
Exciting colours:
- Red - Power, speed, confidence, attention. Also danger.
- Pink - Candy, bubble gum, babies, physical weakness.
- Yellow - Inviting, joyous.
- Orange - Vibrant, stimulating.
- Gold - Bright, cheerful, sombre, traditional.
Mixed cool and warm colours:
- Purple - Royal, noble, spiritual.
- Lavender - Grace, elegance, femininity.
- Turquoise - Sweetness, femininity.
Neutral colours:
- Brown - Down to earth, dull, steadfast, simplicity, friendly, dependability, healthy.
- Beige - Dull, boring, conservative.
- Ivory - Quiet, pleasant, understated elegance.
- Grey - Cool, conservative, cloudy, moody, strong, mysterious.
