Hardy’s Signs Light up the Orient with Prosperity

Burton’s leading sign company, Hardy Signs, has recently completed its latest contract with extensive new signage for the Wing Wah restaurant in the Town.Having originally installed one of the largest fascia’s in Burton, Hardy Signs has now extended the signage at the recently refurbished New Street restaurant, owned and operated by the Wing Wah Group.

Extra width increases printing capacity for rigid display graphic printsThe extra width of the Océ Arizona 350 XT flatbed printer enables it to be used in a continuous imaging mode for rigid media up to 125 x 250 cm (a standard 4-foot by 8-foot board). Two rigid boards of this size can be mounted on separate vacuum areas of the flatbed table. While one board is being printed, the other can be changed by the operator. Options expand capabilitiesWith the Roll Media Option installed, you can print onto display graphic flexible media up to 2.2 m (87 inches) wide. The media roll can be unloaded at any time without interrupting rigid printing, and there is no down time to reconfigure the system to change from one print mode to the other. The Océ Arizona 350 XT includes a White Ink Option that can be added at the factory or in the field. The White Ink Option enables under-printing for non-white media or objects, over-printing for backlit applications on transparent media and/or printing white as a spot colour.

Burton and District’s MP Andrew Griffiths visited the new offices of Hardy Signs Limited on The Malsters earlier this week as the sign-making company’s Grab Bag Appeal entered its final phase.Launched by Hardy Signs back in mid-August, the five-figure appeal now stands in excess of £9,000 with the latest adverts being taken by Sainsbury’s Burton Store, Wing Wah Restaurant, Burton Rugby Club and Coopers Square Shopping Centre.“Working with Nik Hardy and his team, we are looking to achieve the £10,000 target in the next few weeks,” added Andrew Griffiths.“To all those who have already donated and contributed with their adverts now on the van, a ‘Big Thank You’; and, I’d now like to encourage other local businesses to contribute. The Fiat van is becoming a familiar sight around the town and our locality; and currently this is a great way to promote your name and your business”, he pointed out. The £10,000 raised by this charity appeal will enable Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to purchase and fully equip their first Grab Bag with a defibrillator, ultrasound scanner and portable oxygen would be used in an emergency situation. During his tour of the offices, design and production areas of Hardy Signs, Andrew Griffiths, saw examples of the latest signs and signage produced on the largest equipment available in the area.The large flat-bed printer can print on any material or substrate and the MP was shown full-size interior doors which can be printed in one-pass on the special equipment from Oce.“Andrew was amazed by the printed doors with the images of Premiership footballers and Pop Stars”, added Nik Hardy. “We had prepared them in advance of his visit to show the capabilities of our new printer. He was then able to see at first-hand the printing in progress on Monday with customers’ work on aluminium, acrylic, and PVC.”“We are delighted that our busy MP has been able to find time to support and to promote our Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Grab Bag Appeal to the point now, where we are within striking distance of our target”. Hardy’s Signs Light up the Orient with ProsperityBurton’s leading sign company, Hardy Signs, has recently completed its latest contract with extensive new signage for the Wing Wah restaurant in the Town.Having originally installed one of the largest fascia’s in Burton, Hardy Signs has now extended the signage at the recently refurbished New Street restaurant, owned and operated by the Wing Wah Group. Stretching some 24 metres across the exterior face of the popular restaurant, the distinctive Chinese lettering, which means Prosperity, is eye-catching by day, but especially by night.Using three-dimensional, built-up acrylic letters, Hardy Signs has created an impressive feature. Within each individual letter, low-energy LED lighting systems have been employed to give full internal illumination.As part of the £300,000 refurbishment project undertaken by the restaurant group, Hardy Signs were tasked to remove the existing neon lettering and supply a new powder coated aluminium fascia as a base for the impressive new styling.The Burton Wing Wah is the latest restaurant to receive a complete refurbishment within the group, by employing Hardy Signs to design and install stunning new signage that stands out on the high street.“On the face of it these signs look stunning – this is largely due to the complex electrical specifications in place to achieve the high intensity and bright colours” said Hardy Signs General Manager, Tom Hardy. “We have utilised high-efficiency, low-energy LEDs and have introduced the latest translucent materials to create the desired effect”.A key part of the sign makers company policy is to advise customers on the latest technologies available for their signage. The expertise of the design team, led by Adam Bates, is to translate the specification, in this case, the taste and magic of the Far East, into a complete signage package.Our new signs accurately convey our image and brand to the potential diner, said Kevin Chan, Restaurant Manager at Burton. Chinese is no problem for Hardys
High up above numbers 45 to 50 New Street in Burton, Hardy Sign, who originally installed one of the largest single fascia signs in the town, has now extended the signage.The bright new larger restaurant owned and operated by the Wing Wah Group reopened earlier in the month.The distinctive Chinese lettering for Wing Wah, running right across the main windows of the enlarged restaurant, are eye-catching by day but especially at night.Signs for Chinese restaurants in this country are usually highly-lit and in full Chinese tradition Wing Wah is no exception. Three dimensional built-up acrylic lettering was specified by Hardy Signs as the most appropriate styling. Within each letter, low-energy LEDs were fitted to give complete internal illumination.Before the new signs were installed, the sign company repainted the existing fascia and then replaced the ageing and unreliable neon illumination to add quality signage to the exterior of the restaurant.For the uninitiated, Wing Wah Chinese serves up a complete taste of the Orient. The restaurant offers a large selection of Chinese, Cantonese, Thai, Japanese, and Malaysian dishes and cuisine, with buffets served daily at lunch and dinner.The Burton Wing Wah is the third restaurant in the group’s total of five restaurants and employed Hardy Signs to design and install stunning new signage that stands out above the rest. And, now Burton is no exception.“On the face if it designing signs in Chinese should be simple”, said Hardy Signs MD Nik Hardy, “However the electrical specifications to achieve the high-intensity and bright colours are complex”. “We now use high-efficiency, low-consumption LEDs rather than traditional incandescent bulbs and we have introduced the latest reflective and translucent materials to create the desired attention-grabbing effects”.Part of the sign makers’ company policy is to advise customers on the latest sign technologies that can be applied to their new signs. Hardy Signs Limited was established by Nik Hardy back in 1993, since then there have been wholesale changes in the signage industry. I am often asked ‘why did you start a signwriting business in Burton?’ remarked Nik Hardy. “It was a natural progression. I’'d served a traditional apprenticeship, some 8 years working for Gordon King at Slynns Signwriters and Decorators, formerly based in Hunter Street, Burton. This gave me a rock solid foundation in the trade; gaining experience in all aspects of traditional sign production including the correct designing and layout of a sign…... an area often overlooked by many in more recent times and I am grateful to this day for that introduction. ” The breweries provided a ready-market for what was the fledgling Hardy Signs; and, today they are still heavy users of corporate identity and signs for their beer brands right through to each and every public House. Eight years ago, Hardy Signs moved their expanding business into Falcon Close which enabled the team to offer it's bespoke sign design, manufacturing and installation services to a wider customer base. Around Burton, Hardy Signs are on every street in the town –for example, the Burton Mail, Burton Albion Football Club, The Queens Hospital, Branston Golf & Country Club,Trent & Dove Housing Association, East Staffordshire Borough Council, W T Parker, Molson Coors, Bristol Street Motors...– simply everywhere! Talking with Nik Hardy, it’'s clear that the sign industry is far more complex today than it was back in the early 1990’s. More recently the largest single development has been the introduction of vinyl and proprietary sign materials. Any car or van can be entirely ‘wrapped’ from bumper to roof in vinyl, making it effectively a moving billboard. Hardy Signs familiar vans are frequently seen around the town, across Staffordshire and the Midlands. Recent expansion has included the winning of contracts in London from a new office in the Capital and the addition of blue chip clients, including B&Q, Lookers and Argos. The company has remained keenly aware of the need of keeping ahead in its changing markets.
